Default Another CAT5 question

How will CAT5 stand up to outside elements??

I have an ideal route for getting a CAT5 downstairs into the living room but it means going outside for about 10 meters, other wise its going to be a write pain in the *** to get it down there.

To be honest if it were to last no longer than 3-4 years before it needs to be replaced I would be happy.

I've run some outside and it was fine.

It was supposed to be a temporary job, but it's been there a few years now.......

Basically I’m just gona cable tie it to the broadband coax cable coming into my bedroom. Not really bothered if it needs replacing every couple of years because it’s an easy job as the route is virtually strait, recon it would only take 20 mins to do it.

As long as you don't cut the sheath or rip it as you pull the cable in it will be OK. ie as long as no water gets in you shouldn't have any probs

And for even more peace of mind, you could buy some cheap, small diameter trunking and run it inside that.

You can get external grade cat 5, though as you say its easy to replace, or you could put it in some plastic conduit.
