My PC has 128mb of ram currently installed. As it can have up to 1.5GB max, I'm thinking of filling the second socket
I was looking at some 512MB from dabs.com
What difference would installing this amount be expected?

the chances are thet your useing more then 128 @ presant so you would get a good speed increase
i had 256 installed and shoved another 512 in and got a good speed boost, and then my 256 fooked up so im down to 512
wont be buying anymore as im changing the mother board in the summer and i want ddr ram instead

Me and my mate at work have almost identical spec notebooks, 2.4ghz running XP, except I've got 512mb and he's got 256mb.
The difference in speed between the 2 is unbelievable. If you look in the task manager you'll see that it's always using a minimum of 300mb of RAM, which means 50mb of this is actually on the hard disk.
It's fine when he's using 1 app, but when he's got more than a couple of apps open and he's trying to switch between them it gets as slow as buggery. I can open almost as many apps as I like, to the degree where I've got 2 lines on the task bar with little or no noticeable loss in speed.
