does anybody know of any software that can convert .SVG files to .eps or .ai format? we converted one but when we opened it in illustrator it was actually a rastor bitmap and not a true .eps file.

I've never used the .svg file format.
However in Corel Draw when you import any postscript file you have to select the "Interpereted post script" option. If you just select the "post script" option it loads in the bitmap that is attached with the post script file that acts as a preview image.
