Anyone know if you can create a bootable CD to copy one of the many OS from an MSDN DVD so I can install it from boot and how of course.

Thanks

I have just dragged the folder out and burnt all the contents from inside the folder to a disc, has always been bootable for me.

Mark,

If it is from the actual MSDN DVDs you are doing it from, you must retain the directory structure. More info below, cut and paste from the MSDN DVD FAQ.

Q. Can I easily create CD-Rs from content delivered in my DVD subscription?

A. Yes, the content on the DVDs is organized in such a way that it is easy to create your own CD-Rs from DVD. However, there are some things that must be paid attention to:

a.. Keep the path identical. For example, if the path to Windows NT Server 4.0 on a DVD is \US\NTS40\, be sure to put all of the files on the CD-R in the same path.
b.. If there are any files in the root of the DVD, be sure to put them in the root of your CD-R.
c.. The CD-R's volume label must match the DVD's volume label.
d.. CD-Rs can only be created and used in accordance with the MSDN Master End-User License Agreement (EULA).

Cheers

Ian, does this apply to allowing you to boot also, problem is, the label length is greater than what Nero will allow.

Mark.

As above is all I do. I do not specifically make my CD burning software make the disk bootable (I don't think my software can anyway). I think the files in the root of the MSDN DVDs do all that.

As for label length, well, I've never had any problems. Label lengths are usually quite short IIRC, usually 8 to 10 chars. But if you don't get the label in the CD will not boot, been there, done that, got the coffee cup coasters.

Of course, the PC in question also needs to have "Boot from CD" before "Boot from Hard Disk" set up in BIOS otherwise you will never get anywhere....

Cheers

OK, I'm getting there, slow but sure, all booting fine. But when setup gets to the part are starting setup, it comes up with "Setup cannot find the end user licence agreement (EULA). MS knowledge says this is something to do with FATS that are formatted with 2000, etc, etc. I tried formatting with dos 6.22, but it came up with same problem.

Mark,

Are you sure that you have the emulated the directory structure of the DVD on the CD ? I.e. if the OS you are installing was on the DVD as:

\English\WinNT\

Your CD must have the same structure. If it doesn't you do get this error where is says it can't find the EULA. I make the disks by making the structure on the CD by hand ensuring every sub-directory and files in the tree are on the CD.

Of course, there are other problems that cause the error message, but I thought I would point it out to make sure.

Cheers
