Question

Does anyone know if having the telephone line enabled for an ADSL service stops a 'normal' modem from being able to work on the voice part of the line?

A modem that used to work now does not - diagnostics says 'no dial tone. The phone connected to the same line does have dial tone - I even used the same connector that plugs into my dect phone into the back of the modem just to make sure the lines were OK!!

Is my modem goosed? Could it be a driver problem?

Cheers

Mick

If its an analogue modem should plug into the ADSL socket and work as normal- if its ISDN/ digital it wont work.

Yes, it should work but the baud rate achieved may well be lower.

There should be no problems whatsoever identifying the dial tone

Shouldnt be a problem - I sometimes dial up over my ADSL enabled phone line without any issues.

Try using a different microfilter, sometimes modems can be fussy!

Yes, I use an analogue modem over an ADSL-enabled line. Typical connection speed is ~40kps, so not the greatest but yes it does work.

Yup should work no problems, you have to see what it does to know it can do it, basically you are converting digital to analogue so you can send it over your phone line, when it gets to the exchange (which are digital) its then converted back to digital and packeted as per any digital device, at the other end the reverse happens, digital to analogue and digital at your modem

As above. Yes it does work as I have done it to send a fax. Just plug your anaogue modem into the micorfilter to use the voice bandwidth of the line. ADSL modem uses a different bandwith so there is no interference/problems.
