MS Word problem

I have a strange one with MS Word. It happens with Word 2000 and 2003.
I have some documents, whose templates Language is English (U.K.).
The language setting on my Win XP Pro laptop is English (U.K.), and the location is set to UK.
After editing the documents, the Language value in Word (middle bottom of the screen) changes to France (French). Any ideas how this is happening ??

Unsure Dave, after opening, what language is set at lower middle.
If UK, does it change to french when u hi-light a word.
Double click the "french" area, from the popup, you should be able to select the language and make it UK as default.
