Decent text Editor required

I need to edit a large text document, which contains about a 100 items to change. Each item has a * next to it and although I could use a search to find each * it'll take ages.
AN old MVS editor I used to use could 'hide' all the lines in a file and then only show the ones that matched a search pattern.
Using this I could turn a 500 page view into a 3 page one using this exclude.
Anyone know of an editor for the PC that'll do this exclude trick?
