Not by much I doubt it, however if you look at the PGR2 deal at the moment at £129.99 PGR2 is still £40 in the stores, so you could say your only paying £90 for the XBox

Just before xmas I got Xbox + PGR2 + Second (non-MS) controller + wheel/pedals for £129.99 from Toys R Us.

I'm sure someone is doing the console on its own for £99.99

Allow £30 for chip

Game Bundle

However when I bought a few games from there the first time I picked up one of their loyalty cards which got me 10% off my first purchase

So thats £125 for the X-Box, Halo and PGR2

It is a home entertainment system, not just a games machine. I use mine for playing games, playing movies, playing mucis, it can also do slideshows of pics taken etc... once it has had the full power unlocked using a chip and some open source software

Apparantly Microsoft loose money on every Xbox they sell for less than approx. £250
Got this info from someone I know in recruitment who recently interviewed the UK Xbox account manager (make of that what you will)

Is there any way of knowing which xbox has a samsung drive without opening the box before I buy it? Or are there any stores that allow you to check?

I hear the ones with Thompson drives are unreliable and not as good for modding.

No issues with my Thomson drive, it reads my files from CDRW and DVD-R fine.
