Unhappy

Hi All,

My brother got me a Creative Audigy 2 soundcard for Xmas because I needed a firewire port for DV editing. I installed the card no problems (replacing my SoundBlaster Live! card), but I lost my internet connection (ADSL via USB modem). The ADSL connects no problem, but when I try to access the web (or e-mail), I can't connect to anything external. It appears that that PC doesn't know which connection to use for the Internet connection - USB or Firewire. I have disabled the firewire network connection, but that doesn't help.

In the end I decided to try a fresh install of WinXP on a spare harddrive I have. Voila! Normal internet access and DV editing at the same time! Unfortunately, this means I have to do a complete reinstall of my system, which is never a fun thing to do...

So, before I take the plunge and reinstall, does anyone have any bright ideas how to get around this problem? I have already checked for IRQ conflicts and the like, which are all clear.

Spec:
ASUS A7A266-E mobo
Athlon 1800+
512MB DDR RAM
Creative Audigy 2 with firewire
2 HD - 80GB and 60GB
DVD-R/RW
CD-R/RW
4 USB ports, all in use
ADSL 512/256 connection through Connexant USB ADSL modem
Windows XP Pro SP1 and all updates
McAfee VirusScan/Firewall

Thanks in advance

Daniel

try uninstalling/deleteing the drivers for your modem then reinstalling them?
