any one know if I can connect 2 together or buy a link I need a 20ft peice of Lan cable to go from the set top box in my living room to the pc room any help.

yes, but not recommended (degrade signal strength). Try and get right length of cable or move kit nearer to each other. Otherwise try places like Misco, Inmac, Maplin etc for a coupler.

UTP cat5 cable is fine up and over 50 metres (I think it's 100metre but don't quote me on that)

Got a link to another office at work which I put in myself (55 metres) and it hasn't skipped a beat or dropped a paket.

Just realised you said a set-top box, I'm not sure how these behave...like a computer NIC or a like a Hub. At the worst you'll have to buy a repeater to extend the signal and you may need a crossover cable.

The component stores listed above are your best bet (please please please avoid the likes of PC world )
