Hi,

I'm looking at getting a server for my brothers business. He runs a small garage, so it really doesnt need to be anything fancy, and I'm looking at a budget of £400 - so it can't be fancy.

It should be capable of running W2k server and running print sharing, web connection sharing and ideally some sort of VPN for support.

My current thinking is:

1. Buy a refurb desktop base unit (P3, 256mb ram, 10gb hd) ~£130

2. Build one of these EPIA small footprint/fanless jobs ~£400

3. Find a secondhand server, like the DEC7000 washing machine I have under my desk.

Any thoughts / advice?

How about a brand new Dell 400SC which start at around £360+VAT with a Celeron CPU, 256MB and a 40GB HD?

Bit of a glorified desktop PC but what a price.

Thanks for that - I didn't realise you could get servers that cheap.

I've decided to go the MiniITX route I think, as they are doing some cheap bundles at the moment.
