OK Here goes.
My girl has very kindly offered to have a CD/mp3 player installed, for Christmas, into my work van.
Now obviously mp3s are great. I get massive storage onto just 1 disc.
The stupid question is....
After copying a cd to 'my music' (on windows xp) how do I convert that file to mp3 so I can store a number of cds onto 1 disc?
Please tell me it's easy....
Thanks.

MediaPlayer can actually copy to MP3 files natively, but you'll need to get an MP3 plug in for it.
In media player, select Tools | Options | Copy Music, there you'll see a hyperlink "Learn more about MP3 formats" from here you can download an MP3 plug in. Once installed you set media player always to copy CD's into this format, I think I had to pay for mine though.
I've just looked and it's 10 dollars, I don't know if you can get free ones, but personally I use mine all the time, so 10 dollars (bout 6 quid) seems a bargain to me

There are loads of freeware conversion programs out there, a good resources for any freeware is download.com, however, make sure it's not full of spyware or adware, normally the write up on download tells you if htere is or the user reviews.
So stupid that microsoft didn't bundle that in the media player!

Or, get a player that does WMA (Media Player's format). My Panasonic does, and I think the high end Pioneers do. IMHO WMA is better than MP3 in terms of quality/MB.
