Ipod vs Zen
#1
What is the obsession with Ipods, I am currently looking at getting a Zen and everyone keeps telling me to get an ipod even though the zen has a much larger capicity for price, and also you can get a backlit screen on a zen.
60GB Zen £293
20GB Ipod £289

I agree, also the Zen supports WMA files whereas the Ipod doesn't. The problems with the irreplaceable battery on the Ipod put me off though, although you can't beat the Ipod for sheer stylishness (if thats what you want).
Mind you if money was no object I would still buy the Ipod.

Whilst the Ipod looks cool..the sound quality is not that good. And it doesnt drive better headphones well. Ok for jogging but would tire of the cheap headphones. But plug a real hifi headphone amp into its preout (If it has one) and then maybe it wil sound good.

Personally, I love the iPod/iTunes integration. It works well for me and I'm willing to pay the premium.
Re: the battery. It is replaceable, don't let that joke of a site posted last week put you off. Apple now offer iPod Battery Service as well as AppleCare Support. Third party sites offer replacement batteries and battery service much like the original iPaq PocketPC's.
Many original iPod users (2 years) are happy with their battery life, ask around on Mac boards. You just have to look after it.
The new ones do have a true Line Out on the dock that is supplied on the 15Gb and 30Gb models (optional on the 10Gb).
iPod Lounge for more info (if a little biased) or ask your Q's here as there are a few iPodders, both Mac and Win, on SN.

Why do people see WMA playback as a good thing? The thought of all my music being "protected" by default when I rip my CD's is not something I'm too keen on...

I don't really want to ask Microsoft if I can pretty please have a license to listen to music that I own
