I have a problem where I cannot play any DVDs on my PC unless I am using one particular piece of software (ASUS DVDXP). WinDVD and Mediaplayer just crash. If I turn hardware acceleration off, I get an error about unable to create overlay, but if I turn it back on, it crashes to the desktop.
I have a DVD player, so it's not that great a problem, but it should work, so any ideas?

Sounds like DirectX may be messing up - try running DXDiag and seeing what that tells you. You particularly want to test DirectDraw (DXdiag/display tag, then "test directdraw")
Cheers,
Nick.
