was fitting new drives the other day and now when playing a dvd through either drive, on either IDE ribbon the red color aint there ! everything is blue !
Is this likely to be a dry joint on a board somewhere that I have knocked and killed ?

Is the display blue in colour for any application, etc on the PC?
If it is, try re-seating your monitor plug at the back of the PC, and if there is a plug on the back of the monitor, check that as well.
Failing that, check the video cable for kinks, as one of the wires inside the cable may have worn through and is not making a good connection. Give it a wiggle and see if it improves.
I hope this helps!

Sorry re-read your the post:
If it's just the DVD film that is coming out blue (stop watching **** ) then maybe it's a software thing. Check your codecs are up to date.
Maybe a dodgy connector on the back of the drive, dry joint (as you have suggested) or even a driver issue. Have you tried downloading a newer version of the driver/software off the internet?

Cheers for the reply Andy,
Not a monitor fault mate. It is purely when a dvd is played through the drive...................
Hold on a min !!
just checked some Mpegs and they played OK, so I then tried a DVD through another bit of software and it works ??

No way is it anything to do with the drive hardware - IDE cables carry a stream of information in parallel, not dedicated lines for RGB.
I'd have put money on a monitor fault, but if it's working now then God only knows what happened. Wierd...
