I need some help from you kind men/women. Someone has been sent a text message from lycos and they've asked me if I could find out who sent it. On the text message it says from s99gib00, from sms.lycos.co.uk. Now you can put anything in the fields when registering, but how can you actually find out who sent this...? Can you trace the i/p to a isp...? I'd like to know just to p!ss this person off Your help in this matter would be very gratefull.

Regards

Kev

I'm the Internet Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for West Yorkshire Police.

The police can find the identity of the sender, just from the nickname used when registering on Lycos. I've had success on numerous occasions.

Lycos will only release information when the correct Data Protection / RIPA authorities are in place, however.

Obviously, this is from a police point-of-view, so I don't know how the general public will go on.

Hope this helps.

Hello

You can ask Lycos to ban your mobile number from sms.lycos.co.uk and you can also complain about a message and they will take action.

Not to the extent of calling upon the scary Mr. Burr above...

Steve.
