no, its the spec of both machines that may be a problem running C&C Generals - one is a P3 450/512Mb the other a Celeron 1.2Ghz 256mb

Both machines run every other W95 game I have (Dungeon Keeper, Red Alert 1, Jedi Knight etc) without a problem....its only Red Alert 2 that fails on install on both.

as a big fan of the original Red Alert, I finally got around to buying Red Alert 2 today (£9.99 budget)

But can I get the b*gger to even install on XP? Nope

Read the support pages at Wetwood - and all they say is mark the setup file as W95 compatibility - that doesnt work for me.

So.....anyone installed it on Xp if so...help!!!

ta

Neil

Their support site mentions XP compatibility in 95 mode but this doesnt work

Anyone want a brand new copy of Red Alert 2? £9.99?

Well the good news is I've got Windows XP on my comp and have loaded & played Red Alert 2 with no problems at all. Played it right to the end.
The bad news is I don't know why you can't.

I've tried, failed to get C&C, Red Alert etc. install on WINXP.... I didn't throw my WIN98 away. Plays fine on that.

tried it on another XP Pro pc on our network here today.

Still the same, crashes on running the setup.exe file

The worse bit is reading on various forums how damn good the game is

Gonna call Westwood tomorrow - very P*ssed off that they recently release a game on a budget label and dont bother stating "Not XP compatible" on the box.

And I doubt my PC will cope with C&C Generals...

<sigh>

But Neil it is compatible. I think you need to look at other reasons as to why it's not working. I play C& C Generals often. What makes you think it won't work with your comp? Because of XP?

Maybe its a service pack issue.

The guys above, who have it working, what XP service pack are you running?

Thumbs up

called up Westwood Support this pm - suprised to say that I got straight through to someone without having to wait for hours - so top marks to them for that

After 20 mins or so they concluded that I must have a damaged copy so send it back for a replacement....and that it should work on Windows Xp- which is nice

Game on its way back tomorrow
