Unhappy

My 667 G4 has decided that it doesn't want any disks in its hole. I rang a repair place today and was quoted around £350 inc to swap it out for the standard combo unit! That's crazy money! Makes Scooby servicing seem cheap :-)

Anyway, I think that it's impossible to boot from an alternative external firewire drive so will have to get the thing fixed. Any ideas for sensible places to try and get replacements from?

Cheers!

:-)

MCE do replacement Combo and SuperDrives, have a look here
http://www.powerbook1.com/products.html

AM Micro are the UK distributor, so you will need a friendly soul at a UK dealer who may be able to source one for you. I'm sure Allan B (MacWarehouse) would be happy to help if you got in touch with him, or he may be along in a bit!

EDIT to correct dodgy url tags

Question

Anyone know what it would cost to swop the combo for a super drive?

Just curious at the mo'. I think some places do an upgrade where you trade in your combo plus cash for a super drive. Haven't really looked into it, but if it happens soon, which I doubt, then I'll let you know.
