Get an invertor from Maplins Plugs into the cig lighter and provides a 240v 3 pin plug for the normal mains charger to plug into. Start at £40 and go up.

I've had a look and they've got some on promo. A 150W (should be enough for a lappy) gizmo for £20.

I've got one of the 150W invertors from Maplin, and it was brilliant for charging a laptop during 2 1/2 weeks driving holiday in the USA. The laptop power supply made a bit of a squeal when plugged into it (probably because it's not a true sine wave invertor), but had no problems with it.

I think CPC do propper car chargers for some laptops.

John.

Have a look on Ebay.
I picked up a universal laptop charger for only £16 (plus £2 P&P)

Also APC (the UPS backup people) also do some stuff that might fit the bill and give some additional spike/surge protection.
