ok ive had norton anti virus 2002 on my pc for a long time and not had any problems, now all of a sudden when i shut down the pc NAV crashes..basically task manager has to end the task as it doesnt close down on its own.. also the pc started to reboot on its own at random..unless i disabled the auto protect.

so ive formatted my pc and re installed nav and its still crashing on shut down?! anyone any ideas?

A little story for you ref nortons av...

a mate of mine uses AVG as his virus protection, i used to use nortons, one day whilst round his house he asked me if i knew anything about 3 html viruses AVG kept throwing up at him, which i didn't.
I just happened to have my nortons copy with me so installed that on his machine and updated then ran full check, some hour and a half later it completed not finding anything, much to our suprise.
Ran AVG again and it found same virus it was finding.

Now i'm not sure if this is AVG defining something as a virus when it's not or Nortons is useless, but i think it's one area where you don't get what you pay for

Si
Ps you ran a full scan disk

Mr Cookie

When you installed Norton did you run a full Live Update to download the latest signatures?

I have found Norton to be a great Anti-Virus product

Me too, but what's happening with Hobo_Jojo's computer seems to be eerily like what's happening to mine: it won't shut down without I have to click on "End task Now", and risk losing unsaved data.

Yup ran a full live update which updated both norton and the virus definitions. My mate doesn't seem to mind them being there so i just let him get on with it.

Unhappy

This isn't directly related to your problem, but i recently ugarded to NIS2004 (from NPF/NAV2001) and i am more than disappointed with the situation.

Under Norton 2001 my main problems were system hangs when you do a large number fo file operations, and frustratingly complicated attempts to upgrade my subscriotion each year.

Under Norton 2004 - system crashes, forced internet connections before you can boot, poor (sh1te) interface, acc-vios, log-files disappearing, settings resetting, no Zip rescue, massive overheads, crap installation etc.

If anyone out there works for Norton (and has an influence), please drop me a mail ('cos standard support is a pain, if not an impossibility) to get to

My feeling at the moment is steer clear of Norton!

I'm with Boomer on this one. Nothing but trouble since I installed Systemworks 2003. Resetting the computer, crashes and the repetitive 'Navprod' problem. I have since uninstalled the damn thing and even that was a major hassle.

glad i read this thread. I was running NAV Pro 2003 and my whole PC seems to have been running slow for a very long time. I just removed it and instantly my PC was running like new again. Fast access times for everything. So i've now installed AVG and all seems good again.

Thanks

Marc

Norton Internet Security 2004 has to be the worst piece of software I've had yet, slows the connection so much that its next to useless, have always used Norton until now, think its time for an alternative.
Does anyone rate McAfee?

Thumbs down

The system at work runs Nortan antvirus 2003 and is a real pain...Basically, somehow it massively slows the network access to the server when trying to run KIS (cutomer/vehicle invoicing system).

Switch off auto-protect and hey presto...works fine again!!

Would switch to something else, but I need some guarantee that the same situation won't ocurr with other virus software.
