XBOX games - the definitive "must own" titles ?
#1
After moving my PC into a new office for my business, its time to build a new PC for home use
Initially I was going to go for high specification parts (9800 Pro, etc) in order to play games on it...
BUT, these days it seems absurd to blow £275 on a good graphics card, when I can pick up an XBOX for £139.95. And with Linux, I hear you can even use it to surf and send/receive emails.
So my question is, is anyone else going down the same route, and which are the "MUST OWN" titles for XBOX ?

if your really into your games you'd noticed a hell of a difference between a top PC and an xbox. for starters i very much dout 2yr old hardware would be able to run 16x antialiasing. i still stick to my conclusion...........consoles are for kiddies !
if you got the money and know how get a pc they are much more rewarding.............when they work

If your a hardcore gamer you deffo need both, or even a PS2 and GC as well. ATM I own 3 PC's (for home lans ) and a PS2 and Xbox.
PC/Xbox games that I have experienced that were/are still better 'IMO' (esp. looking or control wise) on PC, or not available on Xbox:
All FPS apart from Halo and perhaps Timesplitters (NA for the PC anyway) and all tactical/online FPS such as CS/DoD mods etc.
All realistic racing games where a wheel is needed (F1 GP series etc, GTR mods ect)
Most if not all RPG's, all MMORPG's
Freedom Fighters
Splinter Cell
Battle Engine Aquila
MotoGP 2
Max Payne
Colin Mcrae series
Rallisport Challenge
GTA Vice City
PC/Xbox games that I have experienced that were/are still better 'IMO' (esp. looking or control wise) on Xbox, or not available on PC:
Brute Force (NA for PC)
Halo
House of the Dead 3 with lightgun (NA for PC)
Burnout series (NA for PC)
Project Gotham Racing (NA for PC)
All fighting games especailly DOA3 etc
SSX Tricky
All Tony Hawk's type games, BMX etc.
There are prob loads more to compare but these are all I have played on both/experienced.
I could never be without my PC's for gaming, but I could give up my consoles if I really had to. Some games are just more fun to play on a console though, take SSX Tricky, I doubt I would 'ever' play it on a PC but love to fire it up with the m8's in the living room after a few beers, this goes for all fighting/most 2 player games as well. This might change as more PC's become living room friendly though. And also the 'game looking better' on the PC bit relies on you having a reasonably cutting edge PC. PC games are also generally much cheaper/better value for money.

Xbox games are heavily optomised for it and will not be out performed by a snide £40 GFX card. Anyway if you have a snide GPU then you prob have a snide CPU etc, so I'd say the Xbox has the edge on a cheap PC sys np.
The lower resolution of the Xbox is offset by playing games further away from/on a larger screen. Games like Brute Force look spectacular on the Xbox, every bit as good looking as any PC game apart from the resolution and high frame rates.

Get an xbox and then mail me for some games .
I would recommend:
Top Spin
Star wars Knights of the Old Republic
Halo
True Crimes Streets of LA
Colin Mcrae 4
Soul Calibur 2
Broken Sword 3
FIFA (if you like football at all)
These are a few of the good uns across a range of genre.

some thought provoking comments - thanks all.
I've always been a one to upgrade my pc, without hesitation, whenever I felt it wasn't offering me the best experience for games.
HOWEVER, I'm getting more cynical in my old age, so I thought I could maybe's get away with just an XBOX (to go with my PS2 and GameCube!) rather than shell out and build myself a new PC complete with 9800 Pro (or modded 9800), PC2700, ??GB drive, etc...
I must admit, I like the idea of hacking the xbox, and running linux on it - to surf and email (and FTP to my PC)
At the same time, I'm REALLY looking forward to Medal Of Honor: Pacific Assault, Half-Life2, Max Payne2 and Commandos3 and pretty much most of those will be PC only on release (I know some are already available)
Although its mad, and after hearing your comments, I may just build a new PC games rig AND get an XBOX to play around with.
Cheers All

I totally understand your decision on buying an Xbox instead of another expensive Graphic Card.
My list of definite must have Xbox titles is as follows:
- Xbox Live Kit (VERY FUN!!!) -> if you have broadband connection
- Top Spin (Tennis)
- Amped 2 (Snowboarding, most adictive!!)
- Star Wars: KOTOR (RPG)
- Halo (FPS)
- Soul Calibur 2 (Fighting)
Coming out soon:
- Project Gotham Rally 2 (Racing)
- XIII (Comic-Style FPS with Cell-Shaded Graphics)

Isn't part of the appeal of a console over a PC the social aspect? Get a PC game, shut yourself away and be a social hermit for weeks.
Get a good console game, get your friends round and have a laff.
Consoles are rarely as good or better than decent pc's, but for the cost of them you can't expect them to be. Can you? :s
