Any experiences good or bad re: switches / NIC's I mostly FTP large files around between OS X (iMac) and various XP boxes

Already using a 100M switch at home and wanted to see if it justifies the upgrade cost

No question 3COM are the daddies. Have few 3COM GIG Switches and 3COM GIG NIC Cards....transfer rates are very good.

However very expensive and couldnt justify them prices from a personnel point of view. I'd stick with 100MG

My new motherboard (£50 job) came with a Gigabit socket as standard, which was nice! You could always run two machines peer-to-peer if you normally transfer files between two fixed boxes??

Are you getting close to the throughput limit of FastEthernet then? I doubt you're much above 35Mbps if Wintel devices are involved
