Does anyone use any of the speed camera overlay maps for TomTom ? Have heard mixed reviews of Trafcam and theres loads to choose from when you look at Google.

Thumbs up

I use the free database from PocketGPS. then just have gpsassist as an addon (after a 30 day trial it's ~£15 one off payment).
Works a treat on my Ipaq & tomtom2.

I will admit the database might not be the most upto date one though.

Another vote for the free speedcamera database from pocketgps.co.uk, use this in conjuction with CheckPOInt which is free and works a treat.

I'm about to sort something like this out myself. Does it often pick up cameras on the wrong side of the road, or miss out obvious cameras? Is it a viable alternative to Road Angel do you think?

Mine's never missed a camera but I don't think it's as clever as knowing which direction the camera is facing, it's just really a notification that you are heading towards one on that road. Likewise, it doesn't tell you what type of camera it is.
