is there any way of opening this up for use? how much space is there on it? ive tried ftp'ing to it but it wont av none of it

depends on the hard drive in it if it's still the standard one and it's a western digital nope coz it's only 8 gig if it's a seagate one it can be as it's 10 gig iirc.
You'll need to run evox or similar if to format drive to enable f: if you want i can put it online somewhere i think it's 100meg rar'd, this is version 2.5

pps evox 2.5 will also give you g: drive if hard disk os over 130 meg
