Dont play games,just the normal stuff.

Basically whats the most cost effective way to spend under £100 to increase the speed of my pc(opening up apps,start up etc).
1800 Athalon for £50?

replace the cpu (xp2500 £65) and add another 256mb of memory

good chance ure limited to a cpu of 2400xp
but not sure it depends on ure motherboard

256 ram is fine i rekon
512 only useful for games

a new hard drive can do wonders for speed. just get a 7200rpm ata100 drive for 40 quid. assuming ure motherboard supports ata100

 

if you like multi-tasking 512 is always good. if your gonna upgrade the cpu you may aswell do the memory as well, as it will only act as a bottle neck.

yeah you might want to check your motherboards capabilities first before you upgrade. you may just get away with flashing your bios

Thats what i have atm.How do i check my motherboard capabilities,i'm no expert on computers.

Okay....fitted a new faster hard drive,60 gb,first impressions are good.

As for the CPU,my motherboard bus speed is only 100hz.Apparently all amd processors are now 133 hz.
