Sony Ericsson P800 Help Needed

On the P800, the SMS "Message Alert" choices are pitiful and very quiet, such that I often only realise a message has arrived by visually noticing the icon on the screen.
I tried overcoming this by using a "ring tone", but this continues to play to end of the file. I am only looking for a basic Nokia style alert which maybe increase in tone till you switch it off. Any ideas, please. Can I import a short piece of music and use it as the "message alert"?

Check this out!You may need to have WAP switched on for some of this stuff though. This is pretty good as well.
