Question

Since I've upgraded to Windows 2003 Server, I've been getting errors on certain websites complaining about ActiveX and Java scripts.

Here's an example:

To fully experience Visteon.com, a JavaScript enabled browser is required. Please return to this site and browse it using Netscape 4.0+ or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0+ with JavaScript enabled.
This even though I'm running 6.0.3790.0

I've been into Security settings within Internet Options to try to make sure all the ActiveX and Java stuff is enabled, but I'm still getting these errors.

Any ideas?

Does 2003 not tie down security settings such as this by default?

I certainly had to enable a few settings - are there security issues with enabling Java scripts? Seems a bit daft as I get problems with so many sites. Machine will never run as a Web Server - just needs to be a server for other apps for testing.

Thumbs up

Found it - I'd missed enabling some Scripting options - now working okay.

hehe, your kidding right??
I have not really found it any harder to break into than 2K was. In the short time it has been out, it has already had 9 security announcements. Some of the patches M$ have released have caused problems themselves. You'd think they would at least throughly test them before they release to the public.

Edited to say, check out one of the later 'publically released' vunls http://packetstormsecurity.nl/0310-e...3traversal.txt
