Hi can anyone tell my why?
I have just had it built, it has: AMD Athlon 3000xp inc fan,& heatsink,
Asrock K7s8xe motherboard,
1gb DDR 400,
256mb MSI FX5900 ultra,
200gb VDMA HD,
Audigy 2,
It was overheating but I put in a 450 watt power supply & a case fan which has cured that problem. It still crash's when you start a new level on a game. It either freezers or goes onto the XP screen. When on multiplayer it does the same or sometimes reboots the whole system.
Any help appreciated.

Does this only happen with one particular game?

It sounds like a bug in the game rather than a hardware problem if it only ever happens when you get to a new level. Have you checked the web site for the game to see if there is a patch? The fact that it often goes back to XP would, at least in the absence of more detail, rule out a hardware failure as the OS would be equally likely to crash.

There is still some possibility that it is due to heat problems related to the load on the CPU but given the current information I'd look for a problem with the software.

At a guess, and it really is as there is too little info to go on, it's probably your CPU, memory or motherboard.

When you say it was overheating before, how do you know, what was it going up to, what is it at now? It may still be getting slightly too hot in which case a better heat sink and fan might be required.

You may have memory issues between memory and motherboard. May be a simple configuration (speed timings, etc.) thing or could be dodgy memory.

Can you try the memory in someone elses machine using only that memory?

Also, you say you just had it built. By yourself or someone else (friend/company). If the latter take it back and get them to fix the problem and give you some freebies because of the hassle

Lightbulb

I'd say 75% of machines I look at with random crash problems are caused by faulty memory sticks. If the machine will run happily until you start using intensive graphics, then it's a good pointer.
