Right, I have finally lost my temper with AOHell and dial up. Their service was fine 2 weeks ago but has gradually been getting slower each day, now it takes 1 min for a page to load.

So.....

Which is the best Broadband package? I am on a BT line and I need the telephone line part of the broadband to be able to access AOL Anytime Free on a second computer with dialup for my parents (who are very scared of technology, bless em), with me always connected on my PC. I know that I could get it networked but parents want to keep their aol address.

Suggestions please! AOL provides a free modem, what other good packages are there?

Cheers

Katie

if you get ADSL you can use the phone line and your broadband through the same cable. i was using 512kb Zen ADSL over the summer and they are very professional, they are certainly well worth taking a look at.

Pipex, Nildram are very often suggested. I'm on Nildram and cannot fault them.

Suggest you have a look here

Surely your parents can check their mail via aol.com on a broadband connection? If thats all they are worried about then get the whole house on ADSL with an ADSL router.

PIPEX, Nildram and Plusnet seem to get the most praise. Out of those three its just a personal choice. Im going with PIPEX next week when I move into my new house (on NTL cable at the mo).

If you cancel your AOL subscription then you will no longer be able to check your e-mail via aol.com.

You are correct darlodge, but the poster was saying that her parents need ADSL so that they can use the phone line to dial into AOL whilst she uses ADSL. They could both use ADSL (as it seems a bit pointless to dial up just for mail) but yes they would still have to pay the AOL monthly subscription if they wanted to keep the email addresses.

Quite a few people at work (including me) use a firm called Zen, and none of us have had any problems, which is pretty unique given the other stories I've heard.

Visit http://www.adslguide.org/ for a really good, impartial ronud up of all things broadband. The ISP comparator is quite a handy tool.

After trying a few, thumbs up here for Eclipse. They are also trialing the new connect 1Mb lite connection for £32.30 + Vat and as previously stated are the fastest provider month after month.

Oh dear, as someone else suggested, get them logon to aol through the broadband (wireless would be ideal)

{quote]AOL provides a free modem[/quote]

Nothing in this life is Free. (cheap and nasty, yes.)
Bite the bullet and get a good modem/router first time round.
- save pi55ing about later and pulling your hair out!!

all the best

BB

PS I use pipex and netgear, for the record, with no probs.
