Using Windows2000 SP4 with all latest hotfixes etc applied.

IIS is not working properly. The webserver is showing html pages but not asp pages.

If you try and load an asp page on the webserver, it shows HTTP 500 error message - page cannot be displayed.

I can open the webpage page by doubleclicking it (i.e. loading it up from the local hard-disk), but not through webserver (i.e. http://webserver/index.asp). Yes index.asp does exist on the webserver and is the right directory with the right permissions set! IF I put a html page on the webserver and connect to it, i.e. http://webserver/test.html the page is loaded up fine.

So to confirm, the webserver is showing html pages but not asp pages.

Any ideas?

Useful comments from the person above again.

Error 500 is a server error, there should be something in your error log explaining the problem.

dcom event id: 10004
DCOM got error "Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. " and was unable to logon .\IWAM_SERVER in order to run the server:
{3D14228D-FBE1-11D0-995D-00C04FD919C1}

and w3svc event id: 36
The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/Root'. The error was 'The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password.
'.

Have been on the technet, found article 297989 , but this did not resolve the problem.

I am wondering perhaps as the machine is a domain controller.

As daft as it sounds Internet Explorer can often help shed some light on the fault.

Click Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced and uncheck Show friendly HTTP error messages Apply this setting.

It's not a fix for your problem but can let you know what IE is doing in addition to your logs.

In fact friendly HTTP error messages is exactly what you do _not_ want, because they don't actually show the real error. You definitely need the full server output rather than the misleading error messages IE comes out with.

Seems it is an issue with the server being a domain controller.

Managed to get it working on a sep server.. now I am getting:

Error Type:
Provider (0x80004005)
Unspecified error
/pages/Course_Pages/Art.asp, line 8

Line 8 is when it is linking to the database, all setup in dw.

Line 8 is:
ArtCourses.ActiveConnection = MM_Database1_STRING

Raking in the depths of my memory here, but try setting Application Protection to be "high"... That has worked for some people, myself included, when having wierd problems connecting to databases.
