Compaq Proliant 1600, W2K Adv Svr and SP4 Grrrrr....
#1
Just purchased the above server.
Fresh install of W2K on a C partition of 10gb.
Doing the usual win updates, everything fine until SP4.
Reboot after SP4, I notice that every so often KVM all freeze, then come back to life after 10 seconds or so.
Rebooted, 1st boot screen (black and white) goes by. Second screen, "MS Windows Server Family" hangs half way through the "starting up" bar.
I've done the following:
hard reboot F8, with safe, safe with net, debug mode, boot log ALL end up hanging.
With safe and safe with net, it always hangs on the following line:
.....WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\MUP.SYS
Tried booting from original w2k setup cdrom, to "repair", but that hangs as well.
Tried booting from floppy (W98 boot disk was all that was to hand). This does work and more importantly, does not hang. It's been at a DOS prompt for a whole 20mins now!
Any ideas before I blatt it and start again?
Thanks for any help in advance.
