Anyone got any good programs to automatically trim start & end silences and split MP3's ?
I've ripped all of my old cassettes to MP3 and want a quick way of tidying them up without having go use my usual slow SoundForge route.
Thanks
Edit: No I have no idea what Automatilcally means either

I use Sonic Foundary's Soundforge too. You can have lots of fun changing the way the tracks sound too. For example, you can speed them up but they still sound "real" unlike Pinky and Perky LOL.
Not found anything that automatically does it.. except when you burn with Nero - you can remove the silence..but not sure if that works from a large single file... no it wouldnt because there isnt a gap is there... Im rambling now.
I think I tried looking some time ago when I ripped all my vinyl

Steinberg Clean's pretty good for ripping vinyl/cassette.
Only heard this from the grapevine - not tried it myself though.
I use a Mac to do mine
Will have a look in my software library @ work

This may be what you are looking for

MP3 TrackMaker is a program used to split up MP3 files into smaller MP3 files or tracks. MP3 TrackMaker is a perfect utility to split up large MP3 files into tracks, such as your favorite radio shows, live concerts, trance mixes, and other lengthy audio files. It is especially useful for creating audio CDs in order to prevent from having a single lengthy track.
It may not be automatic but probably simpler that Soundforge - and cheaper.

soulgirl - Cheers, I'll try MP3 TrackMaker. The files are one complete file ripped straight from the tape, so there is a gap in the middle where the tape flipped over
Dan - Got Clean, but not got around to trying it yet. Cheers
Otherwise, I'll have to go the longer but more accurate Sound Forge route. Just noticed . . . Sonic Foundry have sold Sound Forge to Sony
