Any of you guys (or girls) got a recommendation for a good, solid laptop for around £800? Is it even possible to buy a decent one for that sort of money?

My mate has had Iridium recommended to him, but I've not heard of them before. Worth looking at?

Thanks for any advice, it'll be much appreciated.

A.

For around your price I can't honestly think of a 'good' laptop - add a couple of hundred more and I reckon you'll be able to get quite a lot more for your money.

Check out a couple of PC magazines, and www.pricerunner.co.uk or www.kelkoo.co.uk once you know what you want.

Options from Dabs.com

hp NX9005
AMD 24000+ 14"TFT 256/30 DVD/CD-RW WXP Home - £599+VAT

Toshiba Sat Pro A10
Celeron 2.2GHz 14" TFT 256MB 30GB DVD/CD-RW WXP Pro - £635+VAT

Both have modems and 10/100 Ethernet as standard. Good brand names and excellent spec like the DVD/CD-RW combos for the cash.
