What spec machine for Windoze?

Thinking of getting a cheapy base unit.
What spec machine would be okay for Win98 and Win2000?
I'd guess at 32Mb RAM and P75 for w98, but not sure about w2000.
I know Linux is better (and free) but this machine will be for my kids. I'll wait 'til they're at least 8 before getting them into UNIX
