I want to have GPS Navigation, running Tom Tom Navigator
My question is which is the best configuration to buy?
Dell Axim X5 400Mhz
256 Mb Secure Digital Memory
Or
Dell Axim X5 300Mhz
128 Mb Compact Flash
Saving £87.00
Will I find that Tom Tom will run slow and take ages to calculate a journey because of clock speed or the memory to slow in the case of SD or CF Memory and will the size of the memory restrict its usage?
I only want to use it for Sat Nav and probably not use it out of this country.
Any views or answers please.

I would go for the 400MHz. Both Axims use the XScale PXA250 which tends to be slower overall than the StrongARM SA1110 206MHz that it replaced.
The PXA255 improves the performance situation, but it isn't offered in an Axim just yet so go for as much MHz as you can afford.

Class_A:
I know that speed is everything with computers but, does Tom Tom Navigator need it.
And is the speed more dependent on memory type, or clock speed, and would this show in the applications usage.

I wouldn't worry about MM or SD question, probably no difference in use.
What I would say, having used Tomtom, is get whatever processor you want because unless you are EXTREMELY impatient, you'll have gone about 1/2 mile before it calculates it's route & even then, it'll re-route you if you've gone in the wrong direction
Satellite fix can take longer sometimes...

I run tom tom navigator 2 on my Ipaq with the 206Mhz Processor and a 128Mb SD card. The only time it is slow is when you calculate a major distance ( eg. 300+ Miles ) using the shortest route option. When I say slow it maybe takes 2 minutes but this is a feature you rarely use and when calculating Long distances via the quickest route ( normal setting ) it takes less than a minute and for journeys of say a couple of hundred miles it would only take about 15-20 seconds. Recalculation when you take a wrong turn takes but a few seconds.

So how much would it cost to buy the full kit from scratch? I know the Axim is like £200 notes depending which one you go for but then how much is the rest of the stuff you need. Like the idea of sat nav for the car and maybe attaching to the bike somehow

TTN2 - £116
Satellite receiver - £80 (might come with power cord for Axim, if not need to add £15 but you need to power both the receiver & the Axim)
128mb MM card - £30 (?)
Add delivery to all that probably.
If you want a bracket (car specific) add another £35
& there you go
Not a cheap option by any means. Prehaps the cheapest way is to find an XDA 32 or 64 with a new contract. 32s should almost be FOC & 64s will come down 'cos of XDAII being out next month. Then its just the SatNav bits...

From Dell
Belkin USB Charger £10.58
Axim X5 300Mhz + 128 CF Memory
£233.83
cable that links the DELL AXIM X5 to the Road Angel. RA-X5-T at £24.99 inc VAT + £3.75
£233.83 + 28.74 = £262.57 Total Price inc Vat and delivery
Plus a Holder about £20.00 I would expect
Any Ideas on how to fix it in a New age Impreza?
Anyone?
Pictures would be nice

It’s a GPS speed camera device with a laser detector, I was going to bleed of its gps data down a cable to a PDA.
Price and cost is relative to you financial circumstance, sorry to hear of you turn of fortune, things can only get better as long as you don’t get lost on the way

I have TTN 2 with a HP jornada 568 128mb card I would have to say it only takes about 30 seconds if that to calulate and recalculate it's rute and it's slowed down because it has GPS assist running in the back ground for the Speed camera datebase
If you can go for the full TTN 2 kit as it has the better GPS heads on the market , I know it costs a bit more but hey I wish I paid out a bit more instead of be a tight git as the GPS head that i got with my kit is not as good as some of the others

Watch out for this one, I've seen this and it's very slow:
http://www.tomtom.com/support/ce/support/navigator2.php
The application has become extremely slow
We have received feedback that TomTom Navigator becomes extremely slow on certain Ipaq devices when reading map data from the SD (Secure Digital) memory card. This problem occurs on Ipaq 3950 devices running ROM version 1.11 and on Ipaq 3970 devices running ROM 2.10. In fact, all software that accesses large amounts of information on the SD card seems to become slow on devices running these ROM versions. The only suggestion we can currently offer is to downgrade back to a lower ROM version.

Kevin Greeley: Nothing like backward compatibility
Huxley: I will keep that in mind, don’t know how well the Road Angel will behave as the GPS head.
Thanks for all the info guys
