Good resource/help needed for website backgrounds.

Trying to make use of my webspace and can do the basics in Frontpage and have the most basic of basic sites up at the moment, just a couple of pages with links on them and a few pics.

I want to make them look half decent and one of the issues I have got is where to get decent backgrounds from. I dont want to use full blown pics as they are just too full on, it seems the popular thing to use is very feint backgrounds, like a shoddowy effect where you know there is a pic there but its more outlines than anything.

Where do you get these sort of backgrounds from apart from making them yourself?

Any help much appreciated

Only advice I can give is don't do it. Background images are a pain in the butt.

So what do you recomend then for making the pages better than just having a plain white background?

Never done a website before so just trying to get some ideas really on what to do in terms of appearance.

I think "watermarks" are quite fetching

You can download Templates (including many free ones) from the net. Look here: http://www.freewebtemplates.com/

DHTML menus are rather nice but if that's a bit beyond you (without being rude) then make some funky rollover images

I made and uploaded this page in under 10 mins using photoshop and dreamweaver (same as frontpage really).
