Help installing XP
Any techy people I need a hand............
Installing Windows XP Pro onto a different hard disk and it after it boots, copys files and then reboots it keeps comming up with either "error loading operating system" or "missing operating system"!
I have tried reformating (FAT and NTFS), repartitioning, reparing the MBR and running other boot record utilities and still get the same errors at the same point!
I installed Windows ME on the disk and (which worked fine) and then running the XP installer and when it reboots - same error.
I also tried windows XP home instead and it still comes up with the same error (and yes it is an original and I have XP on my working hard disk) so I am confused so any other ideas would be greatfully recieved.
Thanks

Sounds to me like the HDD needs set up manually in the BIOS. I would physically check the label on the Hard disk and note down the proper sectors, cylinders etc and manually repeat them in the bios. Then try re-partitioning and reformatting.
Hope this is of some use as windows 98/ME will let you away without doing the above.
