I NEVER use Messenger, and as far as I can tell will never want to. Accordingly, I've taken such steps as I can think of to prevent it ever opening, from start Menu, on booting, or from systray. Nevertheless, every day on connecting to the internet, I get some b*00*y message from Micro**** tellin me that it's out of date, insecure, and needs updating. (BTW, I keep my main XP installation up to date properly).

Can someone advise me me how to kil this Fookin' application for ever, please??

I think you're referring to Windows Messenger, which comes as part of the Windows XP operating system.
