hehe.

See where your DNS servers are pointing you by opening up a shell and entering c:\> nslookup mrcookie.co.uk and nslookup homepage.ntlworld.com and comparing the 2 results

I get:

$gedi@linux> nslookup mrcookie.co.uk
[snip]
Name: mrcookie.co.uk
Address: 217.77.176.50
[/snip]

$gedi@linux> nslookup homepage.ntlworld.com
[snip]
Name: homepage.ntlworld.com
Addresses: 62.253.162.12, 62.253.162.10, 62.253.162.11
[/snip]

Hi Folks

Recently i bought some web space and got my url www.mrcookie.co.uk redirected from http://homepage.ntlworld.com/simon.soper/ to my hosts place i've trl F5'd delete'd cache and so on but i still see http://homepage.ntlworld.com/simon.soper/ anyone else see under construction which is what i've upload to my ftp, the only thing i have'nt done so far is a reboot of both my router and pc, mainly coz i'm in the middle of a 7gig download

Any help welcome

A quick telnet to the NTL server and a GET /simon.soper/ showed no server redirect, so it's not redirecting, as in sending a redirect response. If they're using some kind of "URL masking" (which is a misnomer) then the URL wont change.

Steve.

???

I don't understand exactly what your asking.

What are we supposed to see under mrcookie.co.uk, under construction??

If so, this is what I am seeing.

If you or other people are not seeing this yet, it will simple be a case of your primary DNS servers have not been updated yet. This will be rectified within a few hours.

Well your mrcookie.co.uk domain here is not pointing to NTLworld from my machine.

I am assuming that you have uploaded your webpage etc to the new host?

Now I can actually read your Screen grab

You are pointing at one of the old Titan servers, where your webpage re-direct would ahve been done from.

You are just waiting for the NTL DNS to update.

good ole NTL, lol.

quick tip for future reference.

In windows, you can select the window you want (in this case, your shell) and hold down 'alt' and 'print screen' This will copy the window only to your clipboard.

You can then 'shift' and 'insert' (ctrl + v, or whatever) and paste your image into anything.

This will work with anything, even config boxes.

Not really, you could build a hosts file for your PC which will bypass a DNS lookup for that domain.

open up c:\windows\i386\hosts using notepad.
enter the following line under 127.0.0.1 so it looks like this:

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
217.77.176.50 mrcookie.co.uk

and save it.

This will now tell your computer to bypass the domain name system lookup and go straight to the correct IP
