I have recently said i would host a couple of small images for a friend at work on my domain hosting and set up a directory and put just the images in there. Now over the past day or so the bandwidth usage has absolutely gone through the roof so it would be interesting to know where its being linked from. Is there any way to do this based on a particular image or directory?

Yes, look at the server logs using a tool that allows you to filter based on target name... Loads around.

If you have a hosting package, then there are sometimes webalyzer stats included.

Other than that you could ask the ISP I suppose - though I doubt they have logging turned on....

He could always download a dial-up account from BT for example and use their free webspace for images. I think they give 10MB these days. Ok, so he would have to use the dial up to upload images but at least he is in control then.

i use a product called "surfstats"

it analyses IIS logfiles as does "webtrends"

surfstats is much, much cheaper though.

I use awstats. It's free. Check out here to see what its like.

You can increase the amount of entries in each chart etc.
