have had this up and running for a month or so and am finding it a bit temperamental.

It often takes 3 or 4 attempts (and game re-boots) before it eventually decides there is a link and connects. Have only played UnReal 2 so far (which I find distinctly average) but am awaiting Halo 2

Last night it was having none of it so I gave up completely.

Set-up is via a hub via a PC onto a NTL 600k connection (connecting direct to the NTL modem makes no difference, I've tried it).

Any suggestions?

Can't say I have any problems at all. Then I don't have unreal. If you want to know what xbox live is all about then definately get midtown madness 3, brilliant fun and also Moto GP 2.

I also have had no problems with XBLive using a modem/router.

I did find however that running xbconnect (via the PC) needed my software firewall turned off (or set-up properly to allow the connection)

Its worth perservering though since you can play Halo via xbc

Also recommended for online play is 'return to castle wolfenstein'

Still doesn't make sense - connecting it direct into the NTL modem (i.e. not going via the PC with its firewall), it still feks about.

An the game is irrelevant - merely mentioned it 'cos it's tosh!

I'll have a look at the other games, cheers.

Look at www.xbox.co.uk - they have help on sorting out probs with the setup.
I remember mine wouldn't work unless I set the Xbox Mac address to be the same as the PC's mac address.
For some reason NTL block mac addresses if they detect more than 1 using a single connection over a period of a few days (happened to me, Had to get a new NIC and set my xbox up with the same settings as the NIC)
