I have a 6.1 creative labs speaker setup, all correctly plugged in + motherboard has correct outputs (front, centre and rear) all connected up ok.
However, when playing a test tone, the rear sound comes out of the front speakers - nothing out of rears. If I turn off dolby surround encoding, the test works fine on rears but I lose the centre channel
In the nforce control panel I have it set to 6 speakers, analogue, and ticking "create centre channel" makes no difference.

Dolby Surround Encoding (a.k.a. Dolby Pro Logic) is now an obsolete audio technology that mixes a surround channel into a stereo signal. Pro-logic amplifiers decode that signal and turn it into a rear channel.
Because it's a stereo signal, NForce disables the rear speaker outputs and leaves it up to the amplifier to re-create them.
Hope this helps.

still can work out why centre does not work without "prologic" running though - as I have discrete ouputs on the m/b for fronts, rears and centre
