I bought my writer, a pioneer 106, from www.bigpockets.co.uk got the Datawrite Red tops from them and they work fine burning at 4x. Also tried a couple of their own brand and they work just as well and are about 70p a disk. All discs are DVD-r.

Avoid datawrite redtops like the plague
Worst disk ever made since Bigpockets 'Tangos'

As jase said, stil to Ritek dye if you can.
SVP are doing the Datawrite 4x (blue tops) for £1.19 per disk

If you're on a budget, you can do worse than the Datawrite yellows
IIRC, SVP have them at 85p per disk which is a cracking price for 4x disks, even if they are Princos.

On the 106 I've burnt probabaly a dozen Datawrite discs and not had one problem with them. I had problems burning Mirror discs but they work ok at slower speeds.

Avi

+r media is coming down in price.
Bulkpaq have just released a 4x +r disk for 89p each.
These will be fine if it's just data you're looking to back-up.
If you're wanting to back-up your DVDs on them, i'd compress them to approx 3-3.5GB first as I have found playback issues on 4GB burns.
