Question

I'm toying with the idea of getting a better digital camera, and am looking to spend less than £300 on one if possible.

The 2 cameras that I have taken a liking to are:

Canon A70
Fujifilm S304

I have seen pics taken by the Fujifilm, and they are crystal clear, and the 6 x optical zoom is a bonus. However, the camera itself is bulky, and would be a pain to carry round...

The Canon is pocket-sized, but has a smaller zoom lens.

But what I'm concerned about is the "soft focus" that people comment on with the Canon. Has anyone got one of these and has noticed this problem?

A lad here at work has just got one, but has only shown me one pic of a close up of his dog. Seems clear enough to me.

Comments, advice, experience of the A70 would be appreciated!

Duck,

I bought my parents a Canon A70 a few months back after seeing great reviews in several mags.
I can safely say the camera is fantastic and exceded my idea of what the camera was going to produce. The first thing that struck me was the speed of playback on pictures, it is virtually instantaneous compared to my Olympus E10 which for an expensive SLR is very slow.
I had no problems with soft focus but then again didn't get long to play with it, however the quality of shots which I printed out on a Canon i950 printer was awesome.
All I can say is go for it, my parents are over the moon with theirs...mind you they did get it for free
And if your looking at a photo printer look no further that a Canon i950!

Rob.

Thanks Rob. Do you know if the (not sure of the technical term) time it takes between pressing the button and the photo being taken can be made quicker?

On a lot of new cameras there seems to be a small delay, which is annoying if you're trying to take a shot of a moving object.

On the Fuji it's called Sports Mode I think, where the delay is reduced to a minimum.

(May have to make a purchase soon I reckon...)

Can't remember but I'm sure it had a slight delay but you get that with most digi cameras.
It can take over 2 fps for a total of 12 shots so I'm sure you could catch that sports shot anyhow.
