Active Directory install prob
had 2 do a format and reinstall of my 2k server cos my registry went up the spout and am trying to get it back to summat like it used to be.
when I run the tools to install AD I get an error just as it's about to do it's thang...
"network scource not found. Unable to install AD"
there is no network, it's the only pooter... I'm just running it so I can practice my MCSA course.
I'm pretty certain I'm doing everything I did before.
any ideas guys???????

i've seen this before and all you have to do (i think) is plug the NIC into a hub or switch.
i think it has to have a network connection to check the existence of other domain controllers on the segment.
spelling edit.

yes 'tools' is when you run DCpromo...
but also tried to do it through the configure your server wizard.
will try the hub thing...I may have had another pooter connected when I did it last.
cheers chaps
will let you know how it goes

If you are real stuck then get a network fella to crimp you up an ethernet loopback plug.
This connects pin 1 to 2 and 3 to 6. You can also do it with a ethernet patch cable with a bit of cutting, twisting and taping
The fellas are right though. DCPROMO will not run until at least one NIC is up and connected to a network.
Best of luck
