with my new mobo i have SATA and IDE. can i have both a SATA drive and my two current 80 gig IDE drives runninh at the same time? if so how would they be configured (i.e. master, slave or CS).

Yes you can!
I have 2 serial ATA 120gb hard disks striped and another 80gb ide drive working just fine!
I have the serial ATA drives working with the OS installed and the 80gb drive as a backup.
Just make sure that you don't have the ide drives as bootup in the bios! and yes when setting them up you would have them as a master and slave!
