Question

When I shutdown Windows 2k it can not switch the computer off, you can here it trying to because the power goes off really briefly.

A quick look at the Microsoft website says that the only way to cure this is to do a complete re-install of Windows after enabling the power management features in the bios.

Is there any other way to do this without having to re-install Windoze?

I'm with Ian on this. Unless APM (advanced power managment) is turned on, the machine will not shutdown correctly.

See here

I have had the same thing on so many machines

Exclamation

Be careful though!

Changing the HAL to an ACPI can mean a re-install of Windows 2000
