RAM question
#1
Hi,
Just installed some Corsair PC3200LL DDR.
For some reason i'm only getting:
2410MB READ
924MB WRITE
I've running 166 (333)Mhz FSB. RAM is set to SPD 200Mhz. Maybe this is where i'm going wrong.
Memory is showing up on post as 200Mhz Dual DDR.
So any ideas why I'm getting transfer rates of PC2700????
Marc
Oh and A7N8X Rev1.0 MB with Uber Bios

If the RAM settings are "By SPD" and showing Resulting Frequency as 200MHz then the DDR400 in your system has been detected correctly.
I'm guessing the POST display is similar to my Asus board and the fact it's showing Dual Channel means you have the memory sticks in the right slots for dual channel functionality.
I've read lots of articles/opinions about memory in this kind of config (I have Granite Bay with P4 3.06GHz btw) and the general concensus seems to be that the best performance to be had is with the memory bus speed synchronised with the CPU FSB.
Although you've bought DDR400, I don't think you will see much benefit from it unless you're intending on overclocking your FSB to 200MHz as well.
For what it's worth, I'd try changing the memory settings to Manual, and setting a speed of 166MHz, then re-run your test.
Might be worth a go to just see what happens.
HTH.

yeah i've tried this mate but I get the same amount of bandwidth regardless of what settings I change in the bios. I understand that I'm not going to get the full use of 400mhz UNTIL i overclock to 200fsb but it's really frustrating that it all seems to be working fine but I'm just not getting the throughput that I should be for this type of RAM and considering what it cost I'm a bit pissed off. The bandwdith that i'm getting is about the same as the PC2700 that i've just taken out!!!

Problem is that the memory bandwidth on tests like the one you're running is measuring transfer from memory to CPU, and is therefore governed by the CPU FSB.
I'm running Corsair PC2700 in my GB mobo when I only really need PC2100. Only reason I bought it was to allow a stable overclock in terms of what the memory would handle.
If you've replaced 2700 with 3200 and you aren't overclocking your CPU, then the results you are seeing are to be expected I'm afraid
