ABIT KG7-Lite and max CPU

I currently have abn ABIT KG7-Lite, which I use at home, its fine for what I do currently, but I suspect that it won't be powerful enough for Doom 3 when it comes out!
It appears the max CPU this can take is a Athlon XP 2000+
Does anyone know how long this CPU will be around for? They are only £50ish at the moment, so I'm guessing it will be going EOL soonish.
I guess the choice is get the new CPU now then a decent 3d graphics card when Doom3 is out, or wait and get a new mboard/CPU/3d card later.
