We're off to sunny Wiltshire and I've found out that the area we're going to has ADSL. Naturally there is a 'but'- because we're going to be living more than 5.5 km from the exchange there'll be too much attenuation on the line. Can you get a signal booster or similar to zap the signal (or am I talking out of my @rse?)
Possibly will be able to get RADSL (Rate-adaptive ADSL) - in short, you get the full 576k/s in, and the outgoing is stepped down/up on the fly depending on line noise - can be as low as 20something k/s up IIRC. This goes further out than vanilla ADSL. Can't recall what the distance limits are..
I know I live on the borderline from the exchange, my Downstream attenuation is 63.9, but I never receive anything less than 56-60kb sustained download speeds.
